چکیده

The sputter-induced epitaxy change of in-plane orientation occurring in YBa2Cu3O72x (001) thin films grown on MgO (001) substrates by pulsed organo-metallic beam epitaxy (POMBE) is investigated by a series of film growth and characterization experiments, including RBS and TEM. The factors influencing the orientation change are systematically studied. The experimental results suggest that the substrate surface morphology change caused by the ion sputtering and the Ar ion implantation in the substrate surface layer are not the major factors that affect the orientation change. Instead, the implantation of W ions, which come from the hot filament of the ion gun, and the initial Ba deposition layer in the YBCO film growth play the most important roles in controlling the epitaxy orientation change. Microstructure studies show that a BaxMg12xO buffer layer is formed on top of the sputtered substrate surface due to Ba diffusion into the W implanted layer. It is believed that the formation of this buffer layer relieves the large lattice mismatch and changes the YBCO film from the 45± oriented growth to the 0± oriented growth.

Nanoscale Phase Separation in Fe,O,(lll) Films on Sapphire(OOO1) and Phase Stability of Fe,O,(OOl) Films on MgO(001) Grown by Oxygen-Plasma-Assisted Molecular Beam Expitaxy

Nanoscale phase separation in Fe304(l 11) films on sapphire(0001) and phase stability of Fe304(001) films on MgO(001) grown by oxygen-plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy We report a phase instability in oxygen-plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy of Fe304 films on sapphire (0001) substrates. Under a wide range of growth conditions, Fe304 (111) films phase separate, on a nanometer length sc...

Growth of epitaxial Cu on MgO(001) by magnetron sputter deposition

100-nm-thick Cu layers were grown on MgO(001) substrates by ultra-high vacuum magnetron sputter deposition at substrate temperatures Ts ranging from 40 to 300 °C. X-ray diffraction ω−2θ scans, ω-rocking curves, and pole figures show that layers grown at Ts=40 and 100 °C are complete single crystals with a cube-on-cube epitaxial relationship with the substrate: (001)Cu||(001)MgO with [100]Cu||[1...

Real Time, In-situ Curvature Measurements of Epitaxial Ybco Films on Mgo

We have implemented coherent gradient sensing (CGS) as an in-situ diagnostic in an MOCVD reactor to measure curvature and changes in curvature with varying temperature and O2 partial pressure on thin ̄lm YBCO on MgO (001) substrates. CGS is a novel, real-time, full̄eld optical technique that provides a direct map of the components of the curvature tensor across the surface of the wafer. We have ...

Surface Morphology and Magnetic Anisotropy

Understanding the correlation between film structure and its ferromagnetic properties is very important for applications. Despite significant lattice mismatch epitaxial (001) fcc Ni films can be grown on MgO substrates using sputtering or molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). For both types of films it is observed that the average magnetization switching field is very similar but its azimuthal dependen...

EPITAXIAL GROWTH OF Pt ( 001 ) THIN FILMS ONMgO ( 001 ) UNDER OXIDIZING CONDITIONS

Epitaxial Pt(001) thin films have been grown on MgO(001) substrates using dc magnetron sputtering with an Ar/0 2 mixture at 700'C. The width (FWHM) of the rocking curve of the Pt(002) peak is between 0.160 and 0.200, which is only 0.05' wider than that of the MgO (002) peak of the cleaved substrate. The film surface roughness is about 1 nm (rms) for a 240 nm thick Pt film. No grain structure co...
